About Karen
Since kindergarten, when she always took advantage of nap-time to read (and substituted her own words for any words she couldn’t sound out), Karen has been an avid reader and editor. She enjoys and works with all book genres.
Before Pollinate Books, Karen worked as a public interest, environmental lawyer (she still works with government agencies, non-profits and others to make positive environmental change www.pollinate-environment.com). You might think this work had nothing in common with Pollinate-Books, but Karen’s success (as for most lawyers) depended on her writing and editing skills. She wrote everything from legal memos and motions to newspaper op-eds, newsletter articles, web copy and grant applications. Whatever she wrote, she had to cut through legal jargon to write clearly and persuasively for her particular audiences of judges, community members, elected officials, and the general public.
Karen graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a degree in Environmental Studies, and an emphasis in English Literature. She also received a J.D. at Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, Berkeley.
